Cold Steel Master Hunter 3V review

Excellent 4,5 inch blade designed for hunting. 3V steel holds an excellent edge and dulls by deformation rather than chipping. With only 7,5% Cr 3V is not stainless but OK resistent to rust The blade is covered with a black DLC coating that is very durable and smooth. The grind is very thin and the tip is delicate so it’s a great slicer but probably not ideal for heavy battoning. Thin profile combined with a tough steel like 3V is in my world  a perfect match. All in all a very good blade. The handle is made of some kind of glasfiber reinforced rubber (Kray-Ex) and it’s a big well formed handle. It feels softer than my Fallkniven F1 and S1 and it appears to have been pressed on rather than molded directly on. I actually superglued the area where the handle meets the blade to avoid any water getting trapped inside. Quality wise the Fallkniven handle feels better to me. The sheath is crap – it dulls the knife every time the knife is pulled out so it went straight to the garbage bin. The sheath is made of a material called Secure-Ex and judging from other web comments the dulling issue is a common problem. I made my own kydex sheath and used the belt loop from the original version. I really like the blade and choice of steel but given the smaller problem with the handle and a rubbish sheath I’ll give it a 3 out of 5.
